The period from 1400 to 1600 was a fascinating one in Netherlandish art Art Works and history, encompassing the late Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Iconoclasm, the Dutch Revolt, Art Works and the northern cities' conversion to the Protestant faith, which put an end to the previously close ties between north Art Works and south. This handsome book presents an overview of the period by means of a selection of one hundred works of art in different media taken from the unparalleled collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. One Place After Another: Site-Specific Art and Locational Identity
Site-specific art emerged in the late 1960s in reaction to the growing commodification of art Art Works and the prevailing ideals of art's autonomy Art Works and universality. Throughout the 1970s Art Works and 1980s, as site-specific art intersected with land art, process art, performance art, conceptual art, installation art, institutional critique, community-based art, Art Works and public art, its creators insisted on the inseparability of the work Art Works and its context. In recent years, however, the presumption of unrepeatability Art Works and immobility encapsulated in Richard Serra's famous dictum "to remove the work is to destroy the work" is being challenged by new models of site specificity Art Works and changes in institutional Art Works and market forces."One Place after Another offers a critical history of site-specific art since the late 1960s Art Works and a theoretical framework for examining the rhetoric of aesthetic vanguardism Art Works and political progressivism associated with its many permutations.
